I’m turning into one of those mothers. You know the kind. The one that makes homemade soup, homemade Halloween costumes, homemade birthday cakes, homemade holiday decorations. That’s me. Who woulda thunk it?
Wrapped gift for a birthday party and the birthday girl opening it.
Salt dough decorations made at the request of Lizzie’s Pre-school teacher
The amazing things you can make with toilet paper rolls
Our door decorated with Lizzie Claus, Rosie the red-nosed Reindeer and a hand wreath
Please tell me I’m not the only one!

December 18, 2009 at 9:27 pmOf course you aren't!How about a pirate birthday party with handmade flags and costumes (aaargh those skull stockings of mine that kept falling off!), handmade pirate birthday cake and plenty of quizzes! And the treasure hunt of course. With lots of gold.Besides, things you buy are passe, you know – demode, out of fashion. Only handmade things count …

December 19, 2009 at 9:44 amMake it a theme birthday party. It's much easier to prepare if you have a leitmotif :-). And it's more fun for everybody. How about a zoo party? Or garden fairies party?Treasure hunt is always a top activity with kids of all ages. We put little gifts in there (so it's a sort of goody-bag) – chocolate money, spare books, stationery – anything. Children have to solve riddles or follow instructions to find the treasure. They love it.
