Life in Poland

Clean windows = Rain

Or at least it does for us. I cleaned and cleaned all our windows in preparation for Easter and for Rosie’s birthday party. Yes, I have bowed down to the Polish tradition. Immediately after finishing, it began to rain and has not really stopped since. Oh well. At least the party went well.

I have never heard of the Polish tradition of washing your windows before Easter. Sounds like the kids are gonna be busy this week! My father in law does have a tradition of washing and waxing the floors EVERY Christmas Eve which means that we all take off our shoes only to slip and slide and keep from falling down the wooden staircase all evening in our Wigilia finery. Ahhh…tradition.

And now you have been introduced to second Polish tradition – it should rain after your windows are washed.P.S. I cleaned mine of course, but I'm leaving smears on glass and my in-law came to rescue :]

I think I can add something more to our chain: clean windows = rain/snow = get sick. I have been down for the count this whole week. This is my first attempt at maintaining an upright position. Unfortunately I am so ill that there will not be pickled eggs this Easter. Oh well, back to bed. Happy Easter all 🙂

This is sooo true! My mom always says, that if one of our neighbors is cleaning the window, it's gonna rain any minute. I'm kinda surprised that cleaning windows in Holland doesn't seem that popular… good for me!
